The name is taken from the Latin word “Ruber”, meaning “Red”. The Ruby is in fact very closely linked to the sapphire, both being part of the corundum family.

Ruby is the birthstone for the month of July. Rubies have been mined in Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Thailand, India, Brazil and the United States. Our Ruby beads come from Sri Lanka.

t was long revered as a stone of royalty, and the Chinese Emperor Kublai Khan was said to have offered an entire city in exchange for a huge Ruby.
