Unlike other gemstones that come from the earth, Pearl is formed in mollusks that can be found in both fresh and saltwater. Small foreign bodies, like grains of sand or small parasites, get inside the mollusk and form layers of pearly materials around it as a defense. Layers in the Pearl build up just like the layers of an onion, creating concentric circles. The more layers are formed, the larger the Pearl becomes. The overlapping layers also create an iridescent luster, which gives the Pearl its unique beauty.

Pearls can be used in a similar way to crystals and minerals for healing and metaphysical purposes. Their energy is feminine in nature, meaning that they are useful to use if you have an excess of Yang or masculine energy in your meridian and chakra systems.

Pearls are often used to treat digestive tract disorders and address skin complaints, from minor blemishes to more severe scarring, acne, and rosacea.

Pearl signifies faith, charity and innocence.  It enhances personal integrity and helps to provide a focus to ones attention.  Pearl symbolises purity and is known as a “stone of sincerity”.  It brings truth to situations and loyalty to a “cause”.  Inhibits boisterous behaviour.

It relieves conditions of bloating and biliousness.  Pearl increases fertility and eases childbirth.
